Snakes:

  • Snakes belong to the kingdom Animalia and order Squamata.
  • Snakes can be found almost at every continent except for the Antarctic, however some species of snakes are also found in the seawater known as sea snakes.
  • Snakes are found to be evolved from the ancestors such as burrowing or aquatic lizard from the Jurassic period of time.

Whenever we hear the word snake, the first thought in our mind is that they are poisonous. They can kill us with their poison. But the question of importance is that are All Snake Poisonous?

  • Snakes are typically venomous animals instead of a poisonous animal.
  • When an animal is able to inject a venom into its predator by sting or bite, then that animal is said to be venomous.
  • If an animal is Poisonous, its toxic substances can be transferred to any animal or person eating it and can cause severe reactions.
  • Poisonous animals may not be venomous and venomous animals may not necessarily be poisonous.
  • Not all snakes are said to be venomous,
  • Around 3000 species of snakes have been identified across the globe, however only about 20% of the snakes are found to be venomous and only about 6% can cause fatal damage.
  • Some examples of venomous snakes are Saw scaled Viper, King Cobra, Tiger Snake, Black Mamba.
  • Some examples of non-venomous snakes are Common Wolf Snake, Indian Rock Python, Vibe Snake, Green Keelback.

Venomous snakes can get their prey by injecting venom in them, however there is a different mechanism for non-venomous snakes to get their prey.

Some snakes can just catch up their prey and gobble it down, some can just chew it to get it killed, some snakes are known to crush their prey in between their body, and some snakes can crush the prey in between them and the ground.
