What Is Hiccup?

Hiccup is a burst of inspiratory activity and it is repetitive. It is caused by the involuntary contradiction of diaphragm muscle. Contradiction causes local cords to close and that produces the sound of a hiccup. Muscles separate the chest from the abdomen.

Why Do We Hiccup?

When human breaths in, they use intercostal muscles and the diaphragm.

The diaphragm is a dome-shaped sheet of muscle below the lungs used to inhale the air.

When we hiccup, the diaphragm pulls down and contracts and drawing in the air between the breath. The closure of vocal cords called glottis prevents it from entering the windpipe and reaching to lungs.

When diaphragm contracts, lungs, take in oxygen and when the diaphragm relaxes, lungs release carbon dioxide.

What Causes Of  Hiccup?

There are numerous reasons for our hiccup. Simply look at them one by one.

  • Excessive eating and too fast:

The stomach vacated below the diaphragm gets irritated and it is responsible for diaphragm contract, it does when we breathe in.

  • Emotionally stressed:

Disturbance inside the nerve pathway.

  • Feeling nervous or excited
  • Too much alcohol consumption
  • Swallowing air while sucking or chewing
  • Suddenly change temperature 

Remedies To Stop Hiccup

  • Drink a glass of water.
  • Hold your breath for short time with proper instructions of doctors
  • Consume sugar or sweet
  • Breath into a paper bag properly. Do not out it over the head
  • Bite on a lemon
