Could comets be the source of life on Earth?

Welcome back, student.

We are a part of the planet Earth and Earth is a part of the solar system.

Do you know how old is our solar system? Now the answer is going to surprise you! Our solar system is around 4.6 billion years old.

The origin of life

Initially the Earth was barren, what changed to allow life to exist here is still not fully understood.

Water and some organic materials which are found in every living creature and are included in our DNA (deoxyribose nucleic acid) which is the base of life. Life cannot exist without water and organic molecules the building blocks for all living creatures.

What are comets

Comets are icy bodies in space that release gas or dust. Scientists believes that comets are made of dust and ice. They travel in space through collisions and the gravitational force. Some researchers think comets might have originally brought some of the water and organic molecules to Earth that now make up life here.

How are comets responsible for the creation of life on earth?

Several astronomers have found that comets contain water which is similar to the one present on earth. Researchers have also found that comets are rich in organic material and so is our DNA. Also, scientists have found amino acid in the dust of a comet.

Aren’t these facts really amazing ?

It can be said that the comets might have brought organic material to the earth billions of years ago when there was no life.

Comets are very secretive but our curious researchers are on the way to reveal them all.
